Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) in Kingston & Surrounding Areas
If you’re seeking a focused, evidence-based therapy that can bring rapid, meaningful change, ART may be the answer. At Kingston Counselling Clinic, our skilled clinicians offer Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), a powerful, trauma-informed approach designed to process difficult memories, reduce emotional distress, and restore a sense of control.
What is ART
ART is a specialized therapeutic modality that builds on proven techniques like Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) but offers even faster relief for many clients.
During an ART session you may be asked to safely recall a memory that remains painful, while guided through bilateral eye movements and other techniques to “re-script” that memory so it no longer triggers distress. The aim: the fact of the memory remains, but the emotional and physiological hold it has on you is reduced.

Why Choose ART?
Faster results: Many clients experience significant relief in just 1-5 sessions.
Minimal talking necessary: Whereas some therapies rely heavily on recounting details, ART focuses on how memories are stored and experienced in the body.
Effective for a range of issues: It’s not just for trauma or PTSD, ART has shown effectiveness with anxiety, grief, phobias, sleep disturbance, depression and more.
Trauma-informed & nervous-system aware: ART is designed to help the body and mind move from stuck stress responses to resolution.

Who Can Benefit from ART?
You may consider ART if you’re experiencing:

-
Re-experiencing or avoidance of traumatic memories
-
Ongoing anxiety, panic or sleep disruption tied to past events
-
Grief or loss that feels stuck or overwhelming
-
Challenges with mood, focus or regulation following adverse experiences
-
A desire for a therapy modality that moves more quickly than traditional talk-based approaches
At Kingston Counselling Clinic, we support residents of Kingston, Napanee, Gananoque, Belleville and other nearby communities with both in-person and virtual options.

What to Expect in an ART Session
-
First session: We’ll explore the issue you wish to address, explain how ART works, and may begin the process of memory re-processing.
-
Subsequent sessions: You’ll work with the therapist using a structured ART protocol, often involving visualisation, eye-movements, and image-re-scripting, to transform how your brain stores and responds to old memories.
-
Duration & pace: While every individual is different, many clients notice significant shifts within 2-5 sessions.
-
Safety & support: You’re always in charge, the therapist guides you, but you set the pace. Post-session integration and follow-up tools are provided so you carry the gains into daily life.
